“We have just spent the last three days being pampered and catered for with the best of service and cuisine that one could hope to get. This is our second stay at this charming hotel and the best yet.
We booked three nights in between Christmas and New Year to chill out and we certainly have done that.
The owners Stuart and Susannah again catered for all our needs and their attention to detail, along with all their staff, was exceptional. The food served during our visit was out of this world with a vast choice and superb combinations and the portions were large. The chef should be commended on his sweets and fresh baked breads.
This year we also took our dog with us and he went down a treat sitting in the bar in the evenings in front of a roaring log fire. Just what you need after a long winters walk.
Our room was large and fresh with a huge bed and well appointed.
We would recommend this hotel to others without question and we are planning another visit next year.”

“This is a real find; this Hotel has all the finest points of what hotels should be like today, this is rare in the UK and even rarer in Scotland. If you want to stay in real Scottish Hotel without the tartan, without the tourist touches and want real comfort, then this is the place for comfort, peace, personal attention and fine food.
I have stayed at this Hotel now on 3 occasions and each time I have found it to be even better than the last time. The Hotel is owned and managed by the MacPherson's and Stewart is determined to return the old country house to its former glory; like the days when Queen Victoria stayed here. He has consulted architects before replacing the original layout to the lower parts of the building and is committed to capturing the spirit of the other parts of the hotel in the future.
The hotel was built in 1821 and was the private residence of the MacKenzie family before being sold in 1949 and later again turned in a hotel. The village of Contin is about 20 miles north of Inverness and sits in beautiful grounds and is untouched in the way most hotels have now become with coach parties, signs, gates, plastic, impersonal staff etc.
We were greeted by the roaring log fires and a warmer welcome when we arrived. The rooms are comfortable and with wonderful views. Before dinner we had drinks in the bar which were served by Chris with delicious Greek olives
The dining room is impressive with its octagonal layout and windows onto the grounds and the views of the mountains in the background.
Gary, the chef delivers an excellent menu and all of it excellent. My wife's only complaint was with the calves liver which she had for her main course but this still scored 6 out of 10 with her. I had the most marvellous food including the home made game terrine, scallops with risotto and pudding. The wines are good, well priced and there is a wide selection.
Breakfast is another experience with choices which include the Poachers Breakfast, the Gardeners Breakfast, the Lairds Breakfast and many more surprises.
This Hotel will go from strength to strength, the business is up 30% in January.

Just got back to Livingston after our stay, after the drive down the A9, I feel like I need to come back up for a break again!
I just wanted to say a big thank for making us feel so welcome and for looking after us so well. In a world full of terrible customer service, it was extremely refreshing to find somewhere were the staff are so helpful, genuine and friendly, without being in any way intrusive. The food was fantastic (and that's coming from a fussy bugger!) and the location to die for. We will definitely be coming back very soon both for pleasure and business.
