Coul House was built in 1821 for Sir George Mackenzie. The Mackenzies of Coul had owned a house here since 1560, and in the 19th century decided to build themselves a new mansion.

The house, which was visited by Queen Victoria in 1888, is a listed Grade A building, almost perfectly symmetrical in shape.
