“Dear Stuart and Susannah, Thank you very much for all your efforts in making our wedding the fantastic occasion it was. Both of us, along with our guests, were delighted with the hotel, service, organisation, food, etc. You all did a wonderful job and made such a difference in our ability to relax.”

“We would like to make special mention of the food, which was really and truly fantastic. Our dinner last night was one of the best meals we've ever eaten and every mouthful was a delight. Though our entire stay was wonderful, the food alone is enough for us to come back.”
“Dear Stuart, I am writing on behalf of all the participants of the Highland Fling Tour to thank you and your staff for a very warm welcome to Coul House. All your staff, as well as yourself, couldn't have been more helpful. As soon as the first scone was tasted on the Friday afternoon we knew we were in for a great "foody" weekend. No meal disappointed! The quality of food and its presentation was first-class. A special "thank-you" to Chef.”

we were very impressed with your hotel and with your service, you made us feel very welcome and we had a great stay. During our trip we stayed at two more hotels. They were nice, but we liked your hotel and your service the best. You really took out a lot of time to make us feel comfortable. The wines and foods were excellent, the rooms very cosy and we had a lot of fun. We made some pictures and promised to send some
to you. So here they are.
Thank you for a splendid time!
Best wishes from Germany/Iraq”

“After driving many miles this hotel has been an absolute heaven to us and a great unwinder! We have had such a wonderful stay we don't want to leave. Our dog would say the same if she could speak - it has her full approval!”
“Just a note to say that I am gutted we cannot stay with you next week due to the conference being on and also to say thanks for a great stay. This hotel was one of the best I have visited in recent months and am looking forward to returning - preferably not on business in the future. Please compliment your staff on a superb short stay, in particular Julia and whoever cooked the breakfast in the morning. I look forward to seeing how you develop this hotel. I will recommend the hotel to anyone heading this way.
Well done and keep up the great work,
“Hello Stuart and team,
Just got back to Livingston after our stay, after the drive down the A9, I feel like I need to come back up for a break again!
I just wanted to say a big thank for making us feel so welcome and for looking after us so well. In a world full of terrible customer service, it was extremely refreshing to find somewhere were the staff are so helpful, genuine and friendly, without being in any way intrusive. The food was fantastic (and that's coming from a fussy bugger!) and the location to die for. We will definitely be coming back very soon both for pleasure and business. I would be grateful if you could pass our thanks to Chris and the rest of your team.
I will also recommend your hotel, without hesitation, to my friends, family and business associates.
I wish you every success and look forward to seeing you again very soon.
“This is an excellent location for travel east and west with lots of local walks of interest. You could spend many thousands on this place - the potential is huge. The important thing I value are fresh local innovative food, friendly staff and those lovely log fires - these are already in place...”

“Dear Stuart and Susannah, I would like to thank you for a fabulous stay in your hotel last week in the middle of our charity cycle ride. Certainly I am much travelled around the world and this was right up there with the best service I have ever received. This was, I think, down to the understanding that you both had about what the visitors' needs were at each point in time, the fact that you made the hotel fit around us (and not the other way around), great quality of food and consistent enthusiasm and professionalism from those of your staff that were encountered. It really was a pleasure staying with you and I hope to be back.”
“Hi Stuart and Susannah,
A wee note to thank you and your excellent staff once again for your excellent hospitality and hard work during our Hogmanay stay at Coul House. Your stamina is amazing.
As ever, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - the food was great, the wine plentiful, the entertainment fine and the company highly enjoyable. The annual highlight, of course, being Stuart's Hogmanay dance - which we have now recorded on video for posterity!!!
Please pass on our grateful thanks to all your staff, including Chris, Yulija and the elusive Gary, who worked so hard to make our stay the success that it was. Also thanks to Aurora and Liah for their help in looking after Dougal.
We wish you all a prosperous, happy and, most of all, another healthy year in 2008.
With our best wishes. See you later in 2008 - certainly at Hogmanay, if not earlier.

“This is a real find; this Hotel has all the finest points of what hotels should be like today, this is rare in the UK and even rarer in Scotland. If you want to stay in real Scottish Hotel without the tartan, without the tourist touches and want real comfort, then this is the place for comfort, peace, personal attention and fine food.
I have stayed at this Hotel now on 3 occasions and each time I have found it to be even better than the last time. The Hotel is owned and managed by the MacPherson's and Stewart is determined to return the old country house to its former glory; like the days when Queen Victoria stayed here. He has consulted architects before replacing the original layout to the lower parts of the building and is committed to capturing the spirit of the other parts of the hotel in the future.
The hotel was built in 1821 and was the private residence of the MacKenzie family before being sold in 1949 and later again turned in a hotel. The village of Contin is about 20 miles north of Inverness and sits in beautiful grounds and is untouched in the way most hotels have now become with coach parties, signs, gates, plastic, impersonal staff etc.
We were greeted by the roaring log fires and a warmer welcome when we arrived. The rooms are comfortable and with wonderful views. Before dinner we had drinks in the bar which were served by Chris with delicious Greek olives
The dining room is impressive with its octagonal layout and windows onto the grounds and the views of the mountains in the background.
Gary, the chef delivers an excellent menu and all of it excellent. My wife's only complaint was with the calves liver which she had for her main course but this still scored 6 out of 10 with her. I had the most marvellous food including the home made game terrine, scallops with risotto and pudding. The wines are good, well priced and there is a wide selection.
Breakfast is another experience with choices which include the Poachers Breakfast, the Gardeners Breakfast, the Lairds Breakfast and many more surprises.
This Hotel will go from strength to strength, the business is up 30% in January.
I look forward to going back again soon.”
“June and I would like to say how very much we enjoyed our time at Coul House last week. Excellent food and the thoughtful, friendly service of all concerned - together with the familiar peace of Coul House - made it an ideal break for us. Indeed, our only complaint was that we could not stay longer. Please pass on our thanks to your staff. We hope we may be able to return before the end of the year.
With best wishes
“A truly memorable stay, our honeymoon was just as we wanted. Thanks to all the staff for making us so welcome. We certainly hope to come back again (perhaps, on our anniversary).”

“We have just spent the last three days being pampered and catered for with the best of service and cuisine that one could hope to get. This is our second stay at this charming hotel and the best yet.
We booked three nights in between Christmas and New Year to chill out and we certainly have done that.
The owners Stuart and Susannah again catered for all our needs and their attention to detail, along with all their staff, was exceptional. The food served during our visit was out of this world with a vast choice and superb combinations and the portions were large. The chef should be commended on his sweets and fresh baked breads.
This year we also took our dog with us and he went down a treat sitting in the bar in the evenings in front of a roaring log fire. Just what you need after a long winters walk.
Our room was large and fresh with a huge bed and well appointed.
We would recommend this hotel to others without question and we are planning another visit next year.”
